I am a self taught musician, I taught myself to read and play music on the piano and along the way I picked up some rudimentary theory (or at least theory as I see it on it all) but I like the fact that I was never taught formally of music so I can break the rules in ways most musicians that know theory wouldn't.
The way I like to write music is for the music to contain symbology that reflects the lyrics and in "I would destroy" the lyrics contain water metaphors or being drowned in water as a metaphor to be more precise. In the process of writing the song I wanted to have that underwater murkiness present so in a G minor chord of the piano I added an electronic melody that contains an E flat and in the melody of the vocals I am singing a D flat note. All 3 elements combined create a cluster of notes by 3 seperate elements which in my mind simulates the auditory effect of being underwater (at least in my mind it does) and all this happens during the lyric where I sing "Drown you in their bed of rain" in the first verse.
That's why when Tim and I were discussing the premise for the video I wanted to have underwater scenes but I am glad that Tim added the reverse underwater scene at the end where I go back up for air, in the context of the song and video I thought that was the perfect touch...at any rate you can leave a comment of your thoughts for the song here on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GGX0yd6m24 please leave your thoughts there and not in this blog and while you are there SToB would love you forever if you rate the video as well....it helps promote the video and song and we need all the help from you we can get.
